The Lost Stories adventures that were originally written for the Doctor Who television series but never made. Now available to hear for the first time.
The Doctor and Peri visit the planet Targos Delta to check in on old friend Professor Albrecht Thompson, only to discover that he has vanished.
He was last sighted taking a shuttle to the holiday resort of Paradise 5, then never seen again. The Doctor's curiosity is piqued. They must investigate, but they must do so stealthily....
Peri will go undercover on Paradise 5 while the Doctor hides in the shadows. Because paradise holds a terrible secret beneath the white marble and golden trimmings. The mute Cherubs have a story to tell. And the Elohim are coming. Beware.
Written by PJ Hammond and Andy Lane. Directed by Barnaby Edwards.

Having learned from my Trial of a Time Lord DVD box set that Paradise 5 was a contender for the third story in the season, I was intrigued by what might have been. After listening to this reworked audio version of the original script, I am very happy that JNT decided to go with Terror of the Vervoids by the very underrated writers Pip and Jane Baker. Had Paradise 5 been made in 1986, it would have been my least favorite story from my favorite Doctor's tenure.Paradise 5 does not have much of a plot and what there is of it takes a very long time to get started. The cherubs are creepy in an annoying way rather than an eerie, absorbing way. The newly added idea of the transdimensional creatures is one of the few good points to the story, but the two main villains, which the author makes homosexuals for some reason, are not interesting at all.
The audio plays and books using old Doctors work best when they try to capture the feel of the period in which they are set. Off the top of my head, the audio play Guardians of Prophecy does this effectively while the novels Lords of the Storm and Killing Ground worked well too. I hold out the hope that another Trial of a Time Lord contender will be made into an audio play - Pinacothica by Christopher H. Bidmead.
God bless

Doctor Who The Lost Stories Paradise 5 (Audible Audio Edition) PJ Hammond Andy Lane Colin Baker Nicola Bryant Alex Macqueen James D'Arcy Big Finish Productions Books Reviews
The Doctor and Peri go to visit another one of the Doctor's friends, only to find him off on a vacation on Paradise 5. And very overdue in his return. Sensing nefarious deeds, they infiltrate the vacation ship, the Doctor in hiding and Peri as a scantily clad employee! Once there, they find a plot involving angels and cherubs and opportunistic humans. And the last is, as always, the worst threat of all.
Listening to the behind-the-scenes info on this episode was actually pretty amusing, as the voice actor of Peri cheerily talks about being in an episode where she got to wear highly scandalous outfits without all the torment of actually having to wear them!
This story was originally written for the Sixth Doctor and Mel Bush during the, "Trial of the Time Lord" and was adapted by Andy Lane who stripped away the trial sequence, and rewrote the story for Peri, and tweaked both beginning and end.
The result? A solid story. I liked, "Terror of the Vervoids" and this is about as good, but the mystery plot is a bit more focused with a better payoff. The concept of the Cherubs and the aliens behind is very interesting and well-written
The story features Alex Macqueen in his Big Finish debut as Gabriel, the public face of Paradise 5. He is superb as the villain and it's no wonder he'd be called back to take on the role of the Master.
Paradise 5 also takes the opportunity to explore Peri's character a little and allows her to take a very active role.
Colin Baker is superb as the Doctor as usual, even having great scenes when it's just him or just him and the Cherub in the cargo hold sneaking into Paradise 5.
